My company KayBee Tech focuses on engineering, building and designing things. We emphasize precision, reliability and sustainable building practices. These traits have many benefits in our industry, such as increasing efficiency, lowering risk of failure and creating long-lasting buildings. But they also have many benefits just living an everyday life in society. As a member of the organization that advocates for student rights, I have been further educated in the ways that precision, reliability and sustainable practices can help the world.
Many of the principles that engineers apply to the world can actually be mirrored to the goals of the National Student Legal Defense Network. For example, the organization aims to advocate for student rights and ensure that every student has a voice. This is especially important in college and university, where many students live their lives in fear of their university or school punishing them unfairly. Events such as sexual misconduct proceedings are some of the most devastating and traumatic experiences a person can endure, yet universities have little training when it comes to dealing with these kinds of cases. This is why the National Student Legal Defense Network works to provide reliable and accurate information and representation to student victims. This organization seeks precision, and works to build a more solid foundation for their legal representation, in much the same way that an engineering firm builds structures.
The network is dedicated to following sustainable practices. For example, our schools should not be putting students at constant risk of harm when it comes to their safety, and this should not be the norm. This is an often misunderstood point about civil rights and legal protections in general-no one ever planned for this kind of situation to happen. There was no intention for Perry Oral Roberts University, or any other school, to fail to protect students from rape or sexual assault, the same as no one ever planned for a hurricane to devastate their town. The national student legal defense network works to ensure that these practices, which have slowly but surely become the typical, are halted. This advocacy is aligned with the sustainable practices of engineering-ensuring a positive social impact for the future, and removing outdated practices that harm the stability of society as a whole.
The network itself is an organization that works to provide legal guidance both to individual students and other advocates at colleges and universities nationwide. Some people are confused by the scope and breadth of the organization, but it works to ensure that all students and schools have legal resources when needed. Although there are many professional fields which benefit from having the national student legal defense network, law students are some of the biggest beneficiaries. They are encouraged to join the organization and volunteer their legal services to students in need.
The same way that engineering requires jockeying systems, mechanical devices and software to work in harmony, the national student legal defense network and its advocates do much the same. They take all the pieces of a student and their school’s authorities, then move them into place and use the appropriate tools to ensure the best possible outcome. The end result is a more stable system that is capable of withstanding the trials and tribulations of college life, while also allowing students to flourish and grow.
The advocacy for students that the national student legal defense network provides needs to be supported and supplemented. To further this goal, they can use various technologies such as public databases, online legal forms and networking resources. These allow the organization to provide reliable assistance to students and advocate for their needs.
Any organization that seeks to improve the quality of life for students can benefit from utilizing the national student legal defense network. When a student needs legal guidance, they should turn to the network. Their dedication to sustainably advocating for students is a model that should be applied elsewhere within legal organizations. Whether your case sees you file paperwork or required you to argue your case in front of a court, the national student legal defense network will support you through every step of the process.
